Make It Memorable by Bob Dotson

1. What do you notice about the way he writes? Use specific examples, please. (75 words)

I noticed that he adds in a bit of humor in his writing to entertain the reader. Also he is straight about what he is talking about. He does not confuse the reader in his writing. It is a very easy read. you can understand everything. And he uses great detail and visual detail to explain what he wants.

2. What did you learn from reading pages 9 to 27? (75 words)

I learned you have to remember the rules of three which is when interviewing frist of they tell you want you want to hear. Second they explain their answer and third they blurt out a sound bite. I also learned that silence is okay it makes the person unccomfortable that the continue to talk and that is when you get the most out of an interview. Finally I learned non- questions and questions where you ask question and you also answer them as the person is talking.

3. With the scripts: What do suppose is described in each column? Why would it be split like that? What else is interesting about the scripts? (50 words)

One the side of the scripts is what each shot is going to take place and also what will be in the footage. I think it is spilt like that to show how long each thing is before moving to the next thing. To give you different shots of everything. I think it is interesting that they have that to guide them as they film and interview. It really comes in handy when you are interview. And also that they have a varity of things like showing pictures, talking to different people. It is all different and moves smoothly.

4.On Page 34 (and to the end of the section), Dotson writes about a long-form feature. Find one of these (a story at least 4 minutes long) on a TV news magazine such as Rock Center, 20/20 or 60 Minutes. Then, give and explain examples of how the storyteller uses the five bulleted traits Dotson gives on Page 34. (200 words)

  • Scene ~In the scene it takes place in California. They way they show it is by doing a wide shot of the new reporter infront of the beach. They set the scence by explaining what happened. The shots consited of pictures of the wowmen and the family
  • foreshadowing~ They showed foreshadowing by telling what happned to the women. but they left you thinking of why she went missing.
  • conflict ~ The conflict is a women is found after 11 years . Peoples though she was dead and  turn to be not true
  • character growth ~ For Character grownth was the woman came back after 11 years to return with her family
